It would seem as though Unai Emery is ready to listen to offers for one of Arsenal’s biggest stars this summer.
According to an exclusive by 90min, the Gunners are ‘willing to listen’ to bids for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer as they look to raise funds for other transfers.
The article claims that a potential switch to Liverpool or Manchester United is not likely to happen with both clubs not thought to be interested, despite Tuttosport recently claiming the lethal forward had already said ‘yes’ to joining Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford.
On the face of things, the news would have to be considered something as a shock as the Gabon international has been one of Arsenal’s best players in the short time that he has been at the club.
Aubameyang, who is valued at £63million by Transfermarkt, netted 31 goals in his 51 appearances for Emery’s side across all competitions as he helped take them to a Europa League final, as well as finishing as the joint top-goalscorer in the Premier League.
According to WhoScored, in those appearances, he managed an average of 2.6 shots per match in England’s top-flight, which is more than anybody else in the entire squad.
However, when the story is flipped on its head, it might not be as surprising as initially believed.
Aubameyang is starting to creep into the final years of his career as he recently turned 30-years-old, so receiving a large transfer fee for him is not something that will be potentially available for a long period of time.
And, it is believed Arsenal have a budget of just £45m this summer (Telegraph), which makes the possibility of cashing in on their star seem all the more believable. Indeed, Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas pinpointed four positions that Arsenal need to strengthen in this summer back in May (as per Sky Sports, via Tribuna), so the Gunners may need extra funds in order to bring in quality players in every single area.
Arsenal fans, would you be open to selling Aubameyang to improve other areas of your squad? Let us know below!
