Arsenal’s new transfer regime could be about to seal it’s first coup

Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern will be looking forward to life under Unai Emery as he has already started to make movements in the transfer window this summer.

The former Paris Saint-Germain manager has brought in Stephan Lichtsteiner to the club from Juventus, whilst Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Caglar Soyuncu and Yacine Adli have all been rumoured with moves to the Emirates Stadium recently as well.

However, the Gunners are now on the verge of signing another defender, with the Daily Mail claiming the club are to bring Joel Lopez from Barcelona. A La Maisa graduate, the 16-year-old is thought to have informed the Catalan side that he does not intend to sign a new deal with them, leaving the door wide open for the north London outfit.

It is thought Raul Sanllehi, who is the head of recruitment, has played a key role in the possible switch, having moved to the Emirates from Barcelona at the beginning of the year.

Landlord’s Verdict

The Arsenal fans in the Tavern will see the potential signing of Lopez as one for the future, rather than one that can make an immediate impact. The Gunners do have a history of taking young Spanish players from Barcelona and turning them into great players, with the likes of Hector Bellerin and Cesc Fabregas having made the move before.
