Aston Villa and Everton are thought to be ‘in the front row’ to sign AS Roma forward Tammy Abraham this summer.
The Lowdown: Abraham in Italy
Abraham made the move to Roma back in 2021 and has now made more appearances for them than any of his previous clubs.
The 25-year-old has turned out on 88 occasions for the Serie A side, scoring 34 goals and registering 11 assists. He’s under contract in Rome until 2026, but it looks as if a return to the Premier League could be on the cards.
The Latest: Transfer update
Sports Witness relayed an update from Gazzetta dello Sport regarding Abraham in the last 48 hours.
They said that Villa and Everton are ‘in the front row’ for the forward, with Roma’s asking price currently at €75m (£66.4m), although ‘anything could happen’ to that before the summer.
The Verdict: Record signing?
A fee in or around Roma’s asking price would smash the transfer record at Villa Park, which currently stands at €38.4m (£33.9m) for Emiliano Buendia.
The latest report adds that Villa have money to spend under NSWE and are willing to back Unai Emery, with previous updates suggesting that ‘a new No.9 to partner Ollie Watkins is at the top of Villa’s shopping list this summer’.
Abraham, hailed as ‘incredible’ by journalist Maxi Angelo, has previous history of scoring for fun at Villa Park, so he could be a shrewd addition to rival Watkins and Jhon Duran in the Midlands, although a transfer could be very expensive.
