Aston Villa “closing in” on late move for “fearless” £35m ace

Aston Villa are pushing for much-needed attacking reinforcements on Deadline Day, with a busy few hours ahead.

The club are reportedly close to finalising a loan deal for Jadon Sancho from Manchester United, strengthening their wide-forward options before the 7pm transfer deadline.

Villa remain winless in their opening three Premier League fixtures, drawing 0-0 with Newcastle United before back-to-back defeats without scoring a single goal so far.

Improving both chance creation and end product is vital if Unai Emery is to lead his squad to another successful push for European football in the top seven spots in the Premier League table.

This morning, reports linked Villa with Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott, and negotiations now appear to be rapidly progressing.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein reported on X:

“EXCL: Aston Villa closing in on #DeadlineDay deal to sign Harvey Elliott from Liverpool before transfer window closes. #AVFC advancing in talks over season-long loan with buy obligation; #LFC seeking £35m+ for 22yo forward.”

Should Aston Villa sign Harvey Elliott?

There is no doubt that Elliott would be a significant addition to Villa’s attack as they endeavour to improve their performances in the Premier League.

After parting ways with Leon Bailey and Jacob Ramsey this summer, it would be ideal for the Midlands club to add reinforcements before the transfer window shuts.

Once described as “fearless” by former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, the 22-year-old is a versatile playmaker who can operate in midfield and in the forward line.

With over 149 appearances for the Premier League champions, he has scored 15 goals and provided 20 assists, averaging a goal contribution every 201 minutes.

His creativity, work ethic and experience at the highest level would provide Emery with a much-needed spark and will add a winning mentality to the dressing room.

Not only that, if the Liverpool talent could strike up a strong partnership with star striker Ollie Watkins, Villa’s attacking output could be transformed, and he could assist in their efforts to secure and retain European football.

In the closing hours of the summer transfer window, securing Elliott would be a smart piece of business for Villa and could prove to be an immediate and impactful solution to their early-season struggles.
