Aston Villa have been dealt a huge setback this summer after losing one of their most influential attacking players, but the club appear to already be exploring potential replacements.
Chelsea have completed a club-record £117 million deal to sign England international Morgan Rogers from Villa, with the 23-year-old set to move to Stamford Bridge on a six-year contract with an option for an additional season.
The transfer surpasses the £116m Manchester City paid for Elliot Anderson earlier this summer and makes Rogers the most expensive player ever signed by Chelsea, overtaking the £107m arrival of Enzo Fernandez.
With such a significant departure confirmed, Villa are now turning their attention towards finding a suitable replacement.
Villa Want Summerville to Replace Rogers
According to talkSPORT, Aston Villa are considering a move for West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville as they look to fill the void left by Rogers.
The Netherlands international has attracted plenty of interest this summer, with Roma already submitting an offer believed to be worth around £40 million. Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with the 24-year-old.
Summerville is expected to leave West Ham following their relegation to the Championship, with the winger having a clause in his contract that allows him to depart after the club’s drop from the Premier League.
Despite the Hammers’ disappointing campaign, Summerville was one of their standout performers, scoring seven goals in 34 appearances across all competitions.
His reputation has grown further following an impressive World Cup campaign with the Netherlands, where he registered two goals and two assists before their elimination in the round of 32 against Morocco.
Former West Ham midfielder Kevin Nolan previously described Summerville as “incredible”, and his pace, direct running and ability to create chances have made him one of the most sought-after attackers available this summer.
For Villa, replacing Rogers will be a major challenge, but Summerville represents a proven Premier League talent who could provide the attacking spark needed ahead of their return to Champions League football.
