It’s fair to say that the Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been left feeling disappointed by their side’s failure to land Nabil Fekir. A move reportedly fell at the final hurdle, and regardless of the reasoning, it’s fair to say that fans are upset.
Nonetheless, it’s been a decent June so far. The capture of Fabinho caught everyone off guard, and it’s fair to say that another major capture would drastically improve the mood of our residents.
Fortunately, with a couple of weeks until the month comes to an end, there’s more than enough time for the Reds to bring in a big name, and Stoke City’s Xherdan Shaqiri would be a fantastic choice.
The Reds are apparently keen on him, according to a report from the Mirror earlier this week, and it’s easy to see why.
Having played across Europe for some of the continents biggest clubs in the form of Inter Milan and Bayern Munich, Shaqiri is no stranger to the big stage, and so a move to Anfield certainly wouldn’t be overwhelming for him.
He’s been the star of the show at Stoke City over the years, and whilst he is inconsistent, it wouldn’t be hyperbolic to describe him as sensational on his day. A brilliant dribbler, he’s strong despite his slight frame, and that has made him very effective in the Premier League.
At just 24-years-old, too, the Swiss is still improving with every passing year.
He’s also a seasoned international, having made over 60 appearances for his country.
It’s unlikely that Shaqiri would come in and break Liverpool’s deadly attack up, but for Klopp, this summer is as much about improving depth as it is about improving quality – and signing Shaqiri would be, in many ways, a stroke of genius by the German as he looks to do just that.
