Rubin Kazan striker Alejandro Dominguez, who has scored Champions League goals against Inter Milan and Dynamo Kiev this season whilst also proving a thorn in the side of Barcelona with the assists for a match winning goal against them, is going to join Spanish club Valencia at the beginning of the January transfer window according to Spanish daily Marca.
The 28 year old, who has spent the last five years playing in Russia, has been targeted by Valencia manager Unai Emery as a replacement for Serbia striker Nikola Zigic who is not rated by the club. With Venezuelan Miku reportedly on his way out the club are keen to sign cover for Spain hitman David Villa and Dominguez is reportedly first choice with a three and a half year contract believed to have been agreed already.
“Chori”, as Dominguez is known, has not been prolific throughout his career, having spent decent years at Quilmes and River Plate in his homeland without scoring too often. A move to Russia occurred in 2004 when he moved to Rubin where he impressed, spending 3 years with the club and achieving a goal tally of around 1 in 3. A then record fee for a Russian club of €7 million saw him move to league rivals Zenit St. Petersburg but Dominguez disappointed over two years at the club and was sold back to Rubin this summer.
The striker has proven deadly so far this season having scored 16 goals in 23 appearances which has led to him winning the Russian Footballer of the Year award for Russia’s top flight. This kind of form has also led to Valencia’s interest and the move looks set to be completed very soon.
