But in recent times Jose Mourinho hasn’t been afraid to splash the cash on some proven Premier League talent, after securing the services of Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic for a combined fee of £115 million.
However, over the past couple of months, there’s been progress made in the sale of Antoine Griezmann with Atletico Madrid willing to sell their star striker.
Indeed, when United caught drift of one of their long-term targets now becoming available for purchase they didn’t hesitate to state their interest, according to reports.
But, much to the dismay of many admirers of the Frenchman here in the Tavern. According to Marca, Antoine Griezmann has now been given the all clear for a move to Spanish giants Barcelona after Mourinho chose to withdraw his interest in the forward after being put off the price.
Barcelona, it seems, are willing to pay that, going against Mourinho’s recent cry for more money.

Nevertheless, with this possibly proving to be one of the biggest mistakes in terms of United’s future. Here’s TWO reasons as to why United will struggle to win a title without the forward.
Lacking consistency
Manchester United thought they were getting one of the Premier League’s most dangerous strikers when they signed Romelu Lukaku. But instead, they secured the services of a player who went on to suffer an 11 game goal-scoring drought, something that can’t be tolerated at the most decorated English club.
In Antoine Griezmann you can guarantee consistent goals and creativity for your side in the final-third, having proven his world-class ability both nationally and domestically.
Looking at Manchester City and Chelsea over this season and the last, having Diego Costa, Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus all firing is what’s brought them the glory of a title.
So, without securing the services of the Frenchman, the inconsistent Romelu Lukaku is tasked with leading the line.
The missing ‘game-changer’
Every successful team needs that ‘game-changer’ in their side. The likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Eden Hazard, Mohamed Salah and Harry Kane prove that and then some!
Antoine Griezmann is another player to add to the list with the ability to make something happen out of nothing and provide a bit of magic when his team needs it the most.
