Sheffield Wednesday put in an improved performance on Saturday but it wasn’t enough for the Owls to take all three points away from their visit to Birmingham.
As has been quite common in recent weeks, a late goal for the Blues prevented Wednesday from picking up their second win in 11 league matches, and that means the disappointing run continues. Some supporters felt a little more encouraged with what they saw from their team, as they twice equalised before taking a second-half lead, displaying that there is some level of character and belief in the squad.
Garry Monk has come under heavy fire for the downturn in results recently, but after the match at St. Andrews, Barry Bannan showed support for his manager. The 30-year-old described (per the Star) him as a “top, top manager”, and suggested that it is the fault of the players that standards have slipped, and fans haven’t reacted well to his poor excuses.
The reactions below show that fans don’t accept what he has to say, which is fair enough, as there is no reason why players should allow their performances to dip in such dramatic fashion.

“Fans are fans” yes they are & they pay a lot of hard earned money to watch mediocre football & players with zero motivation. How you go from 3rd & the best defense in the league to leaking goals for fun 🤷🏻♀️

Your character is still in question as you let in another injury time goal!

I am not that fussed if players are behind manager or hate his guts. Bottom line is performances & results have been unacceptable since Xmas.

If they were behind him it’d be nice if they could show it

Embarrassing.

Are we supposed to be thankful? It’s their job to get behind the manager. If they can’t do that, then do one. If they think they have better ideas, then retire from playing and become a manager themselves. Let’s see how they get on……

What is your take on Bannan’s viewpoint Wednesday fans? Do you agree with the supporters above that it is unacceptable for players not to give their all? Tell us in the comments…
