Bayern Munich’s long-standing interest in Anthony Gordon has been widely reported, with the Bundesliga giants keen to strengthen their wide options ahead of a busy summer rebuild.
Newcastle United, however, are under no pressure to sell and are expected to demand a significant fee to even consider parting ways with the England international, who remains a key part of Eddie Howe’s plans.
With negotiations proving difficult financially, Bayern are now exploring alternative ways to structure a deal that could tempt Newcastle into talks.
Bayern to Offer Nübel for Gordon
According to Bild, Bayern Munich are prepared to include goalkeeper Alexander Nübel as part of a potential offer for Anthony Gordon in an effort to reduce the overall cash fee required.
Nübel, previously described as “incredible” by VfB Stuttgart sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth, has spent recent seasons on loan at Stuttgart, where he has developed into one of the Bundesliga’s more consistent goalkeepers.
His 2025/26 campaign was particularly strong, featuring 11 clean sheets as he helped Stuttgart secure Champions League qualification.
Despite his progress, Bayern remain open to moving him on as they continue their long-term search for a successor to Manuel Neuer.
From Newcastle’s perspective, the proposal could be of interest due to uncertainty in goalkeeping positions. Nick Pope is expected to depart this summer, while Aaron Ramsdale is set to return to Southampton after a short and underwhelming spell on Tyneside.
While Nübel’s shot-stopping ability and Bundesliga experience are well regarded, concerns remain over his consistency, particularly in high-pressure moments — something that has prevented him from fully establishing himself as Bayern’s long-term No.1.
Even so, Bayern believe a player-plus-cash approach may be the only realistic way to unlock negotiations for Gordon, who remains one of Newcastle’s most valuable assets heading into the transfer window.
