Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are constantly looking at their club’s youth players and wondering why they aren’t in the first team. They’re proven winners at the developmental level, and often they succeed when they go on loan, too.
Yet, when it comes time to embed them in the first team, Chelsea managers often turn a blind eye.
Perhaps it’s down to pressure to win trophies, perhaps it’s down to a lack of faith, or perhaps it’s down to another issue, but one thing that it can’t be because of is a lack of talent.
Several of Chelsea’s youngsters look ready for a first-team berth, and that’s certainly true of Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
The Englishman has been a star for Crystal Palace this season, and that’s even led to a call-up to the England team for the World Cup.
