Speaking to ChelseaTV and as quoted by The London Evening Standard, Chelsea defender David Luiz has said that Chelsea still have a long way to go before thinking about the title, despite a cracking run of form that’s taken them to the summit of the Premier League table.
It’s a run that’s certainly got our Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern dreaming of what could await them in May after seeing their side keep an astonishing run of six clean sheets on the bounce.
Luiz has been a big part of that, despite being hugely doubted at the start of the season, and has impressed in Antonio Conte’s switch to a back three in recent games.
The Blues are now top of the league after their latest victory over Middlesbrough whilst previous leaders Liverpool drew to Southampton but the former PSG man says there is no time to get carried away just yet.
“We have done an amazing job, but we need to keep our feet on the floor, act with humility, because every game is tough. It’s important to finish top of the League”, said the Brazilian.
”Of course, we are happy to be first now, but it is too early to speak about the title. It’s important to be top for the last League game, that’s our goal.”
Chelsea last won the title in 2014/15 and famously fell apart last season as Jose Mourinho was sacked but it appears as though they are back in business under Antonio Conte and now lead the pack by a point from the aforementioned Liverpool and Manchester City.
