Rangers will be looking to close the gap on bitter rivals Celtic over the course of the next season after falling off the pace in the last campaign. And, it looks as if Steven Gerrard will be given a helping hand as the Bluenoses continue to churn out and attract promising youngsters.
Steven Gerrard will be extremely happy with how his side have performed since he arrived at Ibrox, as they remain on course for the group stages of the Europa League.
Although, a couple of the Bluenoses’ standout performers over the course of pre-season have been youngsters. Indeed, the Rangers boss has been keen to give youth a chance, and it’s fair to say that it’s paid off thus far.
But, with plenty of signings having been made already this summer, it remains to be seen as to whether any of the club’s aspiring young players will be given a chance in the first-team squad come the start of the season.
Without that in mind, here’s TWO amazing Rangers youngsters that you’ll know all about by the end of the season…
Glenn Middleton has impressed for Rangers’ development squad since joining in January from Norwich, and is knocking on the first team door for a place.
The youngster also displayed his qualities on the international stage in the Toulon tournament with Scotland U21s.
Indeed, the Bluenoses are currently struggling for wingers with Jamie Murphy and Daniel Candeias being the only out-and-out wide men. So, the 18-year-old may be able to force a first-team place much earlier than was expected.
Stephen Kelly enjoyed an incredible season last time out as he finally came out of his shell, showing huge quality and potential for the U20s.
And, the youngster has already had a taste of what it’s like to be in and around the first-team, having been included in the first-team’s trip to Spain.
The 18-year-old is classy on the ball with a wide range of passing and can grab you a goal occasionally. But, with plenty of central midfielders already at Gerrard’s disposal, it would take something special for the Rangers boss to pick him above the current batch of first-team midfielders.
