The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern were impressed by Andy Robertson last season. The Scottish defender impressed with his consistency and solidity at the back, and he proved to be a shrewd signing.
However, when an opportunity presents itself, big teams make bold choices, and that’s what Liverpool should do this summer. According to the Mirror, Man Utd have decided against signing Danny Rose this summer, leaving the Englishman with an uncertain future.
That means that the door could be open for another side to move in, and according to our landlord, that team should be Liverpool. Granted, the left-back spot isn’t one that needs improving desperately, but Rose isn’t just any other player.
The Englishman, who is rated at £27 million by Transfer Markt, is one of Europe’s best left-backs. He’s capable both defensively and offensively, and he’s equally effective in both regards. Defensively, he’s a fantastic tackler and is always eager to track back and ensure that nobody gets behind him. Conversely, his pace makes him a real threat going forward, not to mention his crossing and passing both allow him to be dangerous too.
Furthermore, he’s also proven in the English top flight. Thus, there will be no adjustment period, and so you could expect him to walk straight into Anfield and make an instant impact.
He’s had his fair share of injuries over the years, of course, but he looks like he’s past the worst of them, and the best years of his career are still ahead of him.
A move for Rose would have no downside for Liverpool, and it’s hard to argue that he wouldn’t be a huge upgrade on Robertson. They’ll never have a better opportunity to land a player of his quality.
