It’s really not often at all that you’ll see anyone connected with Liverpool praise anyone connected with Manchester United, and vice-versa, especially the punters in the Transfer Tavern.
Such is the nature of the North West pair’s intense rivalry, the Reds and Red Devils propping up the bar are always at each other’s throats it seems.
Which make comments in the Daily Mail from Anfield icon Jamie Carragher in regards to a United star all the more sweet for the Old Trafford faithful in this evening.
The former England defender has lavished praise on the excellent Juan Mata, who has morphed into one of the most important players at the Theatre of Dreams.
Considering his past with boss Jose Mourinho, the Spaniard was largely written off over the course of the summer and many expected him to leave Manchester, much as he did at Chelsea under the 53-year-old’s watch.
However, the La Roja ace has been one of few feel-good factors of United’s season so far, hugely impressing Sky pundit Carragher along the way.
Mata has now notched four goals in 15 games so far, ousting club captain Wayne Rooney in the No.10 role of late.
As a result, Carragher has moved to describe him as one of the best in his position playing in the Premier League.
”When we think of great No 10s, players who like to get inbetween the lines, players of his ilk like Ozil, De Bruyne, Coutinho, Silva and Hazard”, he told Monday Night Football (via the Daily Mail.)
”We should be rating this man a lot higher.
”People always talk about assists with No 10s, but I don’t care what position you play a goal is more important than an assist for me. He’s getting more goals than any players in those positions, only Silva has more assists.”
