Alloa Athletic manager Peter Grant will leave the Scottish Championship club this summer, with rumours swirling of a possible move to become Celtic target Eddie Howe's new assistant manager.

A report from the Eastern Daily Press shared confirmation of Grant’s pending summer move, with the Scot set to leave over the coming months when his current deal expires.

The report claims Grant is linked as a potential assistant to Howe if he makes the move to Parkhead.

Howe had second thoughts after verbally agreeing to take over from Neil Lennon, with reports now suggesting Grant could join Howe’s backroom staff perhaps a sign things are looking up.

The 55-year-old turned out on 483 occasions for the Hoops as a player over 13 years, so Hoops fans will know him very well, and perhaps an experienced head with knowledge of the club is the perfect candidate to partner an up-and-coming manager like Howe if they join.

The news of Grant’s pending departure could be a boost in Celtic’s quest to land Howe. He’ll soon be out of work, so a compensation fee to Alloa wouldn’t be required to bring him back to Paradise.

Grant also knows Howe well after coaching the 43-year-old during their time at Bournemouth, so it all seems to be coming together very nicely.

With his exit now confirmed, that may give Howe and Grant the time required to put the wheels in motion over a summer move to Celtic, so it could be worth keeping an eye on what Grant decides to do next.
