According to The Teeside Gazette, Leeds midfielder Adam Forshaw recently compared his current club to Aitor Karanka’s Middlesbrough team that earned promotion in 2015/16.
This is a huge compliment to Marcelo Bielsa and his players, and is a good indication that The Whites are on the road to success this season.
The midfielder, who signed from The Boro in the summer, has drawn comparisons between the two managers and how they seek to play. There is rarely a better endorsement a team can be given than comparing them to another very successful side, and Forshaw has the first hand experience to provide that evaluation.
Speaking to The Teeside Gazette, the 26-year-old said:
“We were organised at Boro with slightly slower build-up play as a team.
“This manager [Bielsa] wants his teams really at it and more often than not, it can be enough in this league. The manager wants his midfielders to play with really high intensity and that’s only going to come with games.”
Looking at those comments, it appears that Forshaw has not only drawn similarities between the two sides, but seems to suggest that this Leeds team is better. The intensity that Bielsa has his team play with seems to have influenced Forshaw, who clearly believes that this is enough to earn promotion.
This is further praise to a side that have been one of the standout packages of the Championship so far, but given the attitude and nature of Bielsa, he will not want to rest on his laurels. His intense attitude has got Leeds here so far, and he will definitely not want his team to relent.
