Chelsea fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are looking up with smiles on their faces as Metro seem to think the Blues are set to offer John Terry a new deal.
Talk of a new contract for the 34-year-old skipper has been doing the rounds for some time now and as one of our punters notes while taking a moment to pause watching a Tim Sherwood vine and laughing, Terry looks to be like a fine Transfer Tavern wine, maturing with age.
We think that Jose Mourinho would be crazy not to sign his captain up for another year at least and it seems the Blues boss feels the same way, given he was speaking about doing the impossible and finding a replacement for Terry and noted: ‘This is a process we can take our time with because John is proving again this season that he is a player for years.’
Chelsea do tend to be pretty rigid when it comes to offering one year deals to their over 30’s and we think that will still be the case here – but with a wink and handshake, that basically guarantees Terry the option of a further year after that.
