Whilst a number of their Premier League rivals have enjoyed the return of the Champions League, the Blues are eagerly anticipating their side’s next European clash. Indeed, they’re set to take on Barcelona next Tuesday, and it’s a game that could well define their season.
Conte will already be working hard on the game to ensure that the Blues take a decent result to Spain a few weeks later, with a top performance needed.
However, it doesn’t appear as though the Italian and the Chelsea brass are only focused on the players currently at Stamford Bridge. To the contrary, as reported by the Mirror, the Blues are monitoring another player ahead of a potential move in the future.
Alderweireld, of course, has emerged as one of Europe’s best defenders over the last few years. Since moving to Tottenham, he has been one of the most consistent players in the team, whilst he has also formed a crucial part of what has become an impenetrable defence.
He’s rated at £31.5 million by Transfer Markt, but Daniel Levy would likely demand even more beyond his market value, and so any deal would be expensive. It’d be a worthy one, though.

A deal for Toby is still a pipedream, but it could be huge.
Despite everything, a new deal at Spurs remains the likeliest option, though until it’s signed, anything could happen.
He’d be a fantastic addition at Stamford Bridge, with the Blues lacking genuinely top quality depth at present.
