The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern expected Asmir Begovic to leave the club in January, but it appears as though the Bosnian shot-stopper will actually depart over the coming weeks…
According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea are close to agreeing, and subsequently securing, a £15 million deal with Bournemouth for Begovic, with the goalkeeper looking set to move to the Cherries this summer. A medical is reportedly set to take place this week, with personal terms seemingly a mere formality between Begovic and Bournemouth.
In truth, the fans in the pub aren’t surprised about this. Begovic is clearly too good to be a second-choice goalkeeper, but his spell in London has certainly been beneficial for both parties. The goalkeeper has won a selection of trophies at Stamford Bridge, most recently a Premier League winner’s medal, whilst the Blues have been able to feel confident in their goalkeeping options.
Begovic has just been unfortunate that Thibaut Courtois, Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper, has both been consistently good and – perhaps more importantly – consistently fit, making Begovic’s game time limited.
There is no doubting that Bournemouth will be getting a top goalkeeper in the Bosnian, with the Cherries in the pub feeling very excited about this deal.
