Chelsea have reportedly turned down an offer from Bayern Munich for Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Hudson-Odoi, who is currently out injured following an Achilles injury, will be available on a free transfer at the end of the 2019/20 season when his contract expires.
However, the same report states Chelsea have offered him a new five-year deal, hoping he will stay and develop under their next boss.
With the risk of losing him for nothing next summer, some might believe the Blues should part ways with their academy product in this transfer window.
However, with Eden Hazard gone and a transfer embargo in play, it would probably not be the smartest of moves.
Averaging 3.3 dribbles per game in the Europa League last season, the England international looks like the only player capable of filling in for his former team-mate in terms of being a direct threat out wide (as per WhoScored).
To add some context, in the same competition, both Willian and Pedro averaged significantly less with 1.9 and 1.3 respectively. And even if they were carrying the ball in dangerous areas as well as Hudson-Odoi, at 30 and 31 years of age, they just would not represent long-term replacements for Hazard.
Teammate David Luiz even tipped (as per Goal) the Londoner to one day replace the Belgian, so it’s not hard to argue that the club must stay strong to keep him going forward.
Furthermore, Hudson-Odoi has to stay and the club have got to get him to sign that new deal.
