Metro have managed to get Chelsea fans looking up with some curiosity on their faces here in the Football Transfer Tavern after claiming that Filipe Luis does not want to make a return to Spain this summer.
The left back has struggled to displace Cesar Azpilicueta in Jose Mourinho’s first team – and rumours of a return to Atletico Madrid have been rife ahead of the summer transfer window and a possible clear out of the deadwood in his team.
Luis made it very clear that he sees his future in west London and claimed: ‘The team is in a great period, the team was champion in the League Cup, has the possibility of being champion of the Premier League, which is the most important to me.
‘I do not think about the speculation, nothing of it. My head is completely focused on Chelsea for the season finale.’
Chelsea fans may be in favour of sacrificing Luis in order to land another one of Atleti’s better players but we think that he needs at least one more season in the top flight of English football to really prove himself.
