Chelsea fans in the Football Tranfer Tavern are excited as the Daily Mail reveal that Jose Mourinho is already planning for the next transfer window, setting his sights on Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane.
Despite Chelsea’s squad being considered by some as almost complete, the only clear weakness is their defence with question marks over Gary Cahill’s solidity having been replaced by Kurt Zouma, not to mention John Terry reaching the twilight of his playing days.
This has led to endless discussions in the tavern as to how Chelsea could line up defensively with ideas encompassing Branislav Ivanovic slotting into the centre of defence to allow Cesar Azpilicueta to play in his favoured right back position to make way for the £16 million left back Filipe Luis.
Despite these discussions being short-term solutions, there will come a time when John Terry will leave the first team which is where Varane comes in.
That said, Madrid are desperate to keep the French international as he has formed a formidable partnership with Sergio Ramos in recent weeks.
