Chelsea fans are bemused by the arrival of Robert Green

Jorginho was the first signing of the Maurizio Sarri era at Stamford Bridge, and some big names were expected to follow him to the club by fans. Indeed, with such a poor campaign behind them, major improvement was needed at Stamford Bridge.

However, nobody could have predicted who would be Sarri’s second signing.

As confirmed on the official Chelsea website, the Blues have secured former England international Robert Green – yes, Robert Green – after he left Huddersfield Town earlier this summer.

It’s a move that has come out of nowhere, and it has come much to the bemusement of fans online.

Expected to serve as Chelsea’s third-choice goalkeeper for the coming season, behind both Thibaut Courtois and Willy Caballero, Green’s signing makes sense. He’ll replace Eduardo, who has gone on loan to Vitesse, and his homegrown status means that the Blues add to that quota within the squad, which is lacking at present.

Nonetheless, lots of Chelsea fans online just can’t work the deal out, and it’s fair to say they aren’t very happy.
