Chelsea fans couldn’t help but laugh after UCL tie featuring Thibaut Courtois

Tuesday and Wednesday evenings for Chelsea fans this season have largely been more quiet than usual, with the Blues not present in the Champions League following their poor campaign under Antonio Conte last term.

That’s something that, of course, Maurizio Sarri is trying to rectify this year, but even so, it appears as though a lot of Chelsea fans were intently watching the European ties on Tuesday evening – despite their team not being involved.

Specifically, many Chelsea fans were watching Real Madrid take on Ajax, with the latter overcoming the Spanish giants to the surprise of most onlookers. The game ended 5-3 on aggregate.

Chelsea’s connection to Madrid comes in the form of the man that is between the sticks for Los Blancos – Thibaut Courtois. Having left Chelsea in favour of a move to Madrid last summer, it’s not been the greatest season for the Belgian – and on Tuesday he endured one of his toughest evenings yet. He wasn’t able to curb Ajax’s assault on his goal, and he certainly didn’t prove why Chelsea were so reluctant to sell him.

However, there’s no sympathy from fans online, with lots of Chelsea fans taking to Twitter to laugh at Courtois’ misfortunes. They’ve not forgotten his decision to leave Stamford Bridge. See below:
