Some Chelsea fans were left annoyed at the fact Christian Pulisic didn’t start in their UEFA Champions League clash against Ajax on Wednesday.

The American winger was left on the bench by manager Frank Lampard, who instead opted to deploy Callum Hudson-Odoi and Willian as the two players flanking Tammy Abraham (@ChelseaFC).
His selection doesn’t come as too much of a surprise, given that Pulisic has not been a regular for the Blues in recent weeks. Indeed the former Borussia Dortmund man has not started any of their last five Premier League games, and prior to their trip to the Johan Cruyff Arena he hadn’t played a single minute in the Champions League (via Transfermarkt).
However, he has impressed in his most recent cameo appearances from the bench. Against Southampton, he came on and managed to provide an assist despite just playing for 10 minutes (Transfermarkt).
Then against Newcastle United on Saturday, he came on and played one key pass, took one shot on target and won two aerial duels in the match (WhoScored). On top of that, it was also his run into the box which eventually led to Marcos Alonso’s winner against the Magpies (YouTube).
As a result, Chelsea fans wanted to see him given a start against Ajax – though he did later came on – and some on Twitter were not happy to see him on the bench…
Pulisic has had a hand in goals scored coming on as a sub.
