Jorginho must have been pretty disappointed when the manager who brought him to England and developed his career at Napoli was sacked after just a year.
He’s had mixed reviews as he’s settled in at Chelsea, but his goal for Italy on Saturday to help them qualify for Euro 2020 will have been a highlight of his career.
He was appointed Chelsea’s new vice-captain earlier this month and he’s got off to an impressive start under Frank Lampard. He’s started every Premier League game so far and this season and, according to WhoScored, he has a pass completion percentage of 89% including 1.3 key passes per game. That’s the form of the player Maurizio Sarri bought from Napoli for £51.3m last summer.
After his goal, Chelsea’s official Twitter account posted the news with the caption “Jorginho helped get the job done for Italy yesterday!” and then tweeted a photo of him with the Euro 2020 mascot Skillzy. Fans replied expressing how proud they are of their new vice-captain.
