Cesar Azpilicueta came in for heavy criticism after Chelsea’s Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester City at Wembley last Sunday with many left questioning his credentials as a captain.
The Spaniard did little when goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga refused to be substituted off towards the end of extra time in what could only be described as an act of defiance against his manager.
Since then, there have been plenty of calls for Azpilicueta to be stripped of the captaincy with the agent of Antonio Rudiger just one person who has touted the idea (Daily Mirror).
It remains unlikely, though, that Maurizio Sarri would do that. If the Italian, however, is planning to, then he has some decent options available in David Luiz and Eden Hazard with the latter seen at the end of the Wembley defeat trying to comfort his team-mates.
You can have a look at what Chelsea supporters have had to say on that and the whole captaincy situation below…
Captain Material. If he leaves in the summer we don’t lose a player based just on ability we lose one of the last leaders who get this club.

He should be the captain in my opinion because what he does there is true leadership
