The former Portugal international centre-back joined the Blues for a fee thought to have been around £20million back in 2004 from Porto as he joined Jose Mourinho and Paulo Ferreira.
The then-26-year-old centre-back had become Chelsea’s second-most expensive transfer at the time, following Didier Drogba’s £24m arrival just a week prior to his (Independent).
Carvalho was hugely successful during his time at Stamford Bridge, making 210 appearances across all competitions, as he won a number of honours with the club including three Premier League titles, three FA Cups and two League Cups (Transfermarkt).
After spending six years in west London, Real Madrid came calling and snapped him up for a reported £6.7m as he reacquainted himself with Mourinho at the Santiago Bernabeu, before spells at AS Monaco and Shanghai SIPG.
As The Sun noted, Carvalho became a fan favourite with those at Chelsea and it appears the love for their former player has not gone away if their reactions on Twitter are anything to go by.
Many of the Chelsea faithful were quick to share their best memories of the Portuguese enforcer, whilst plenty of others celebrated just how good he was for them during his six years in SW6.
