Chelsea fans are breathing a massive sigh of relief here in the Football Transfer Tavern as Metro report that the Blues came close to losing Diego Costa.
The forward became a Blue in the summer, but according to Costa himself, his future could have been very different with a move to Liverpool nearly coming to pass a season earlier.
The Chelsea forward spoke about the summer of 2013 and claimed: ‘Liverpool are a great team, but after fighting so hard and overcoming difficulties to get my place at Atletico, how could I leave?’
Now as one of our punters notes, had Costa gone to Liverpool and not waited a season to join Chelsea, we cannot imagine how the league table would look – although we have a pretty good idea and Jose Mourinho might not like it.
Our landlord also adds that Atleti probably would have missed out on the Liga title to boot – showing how vital Costa is to any side!
Costa has been a key man for Chelsea and ironically, Liverpool have struggled with goals this term – and finding that aggression that Costa brings to a team but last season, they were on fire – and we think adding Costa to that mix would have made them Champions.
