Chelsea hoping to secure cut-price deal as deadline day looms

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for a few deals between now and Thursday…

A deal for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is beginning to look very likely indeed, but that isn’t all that the fans in the pub are expecting. Despite a couple of important wins in recent weeks, Chelsea’s squad depth isn’t where it needs to be, and Conte needs to do something about that.

Fortunately, Chelsea do have a number of targets that they are said to be looking towards, and one other player certainly has a chance of being at Stamford Bridge before the summer is over.

According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea are ‘hopeful’ that Swansea will cut their asking price down from £30 million to as little as £15 million for Fernando Llorente, whom the Blues have been keen on for some time.

Llorente himself is said to be interested in a move, and whilst Swansea City have thus far been hoping to hang on to him, Chelsea’s interest appears to have been sustained all summer long – and patience could be about to pay off.

With Chelsea in a number of competitions this season, attacking depth is necessary – and the duo of Michy Batshuayi and Alvaro Morata isn’t going to cut it.

Landlord’s Verdict

This is a move that could work out for a few reasons for Chelsea.

Firstly, Llorente is a top player. He has scored goals wherever he has been, and he would undoubtedly have a big impact at Chelsea – though he would feature in a very limited role.

Secondly, his departure at Swansea may also open the door for more regular game time for Tammy Abraham, who has looked good for the Swans this season. If Llorente were to no longer be in the picture, he would have a clear route into the first team each week – and that could be massive for his development.
