Chelsea legend could return to Stamford Bridge this summer as managerial report emerges

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are going to be tuning into the World Cup every day over the next few weeks in an effort to forget the negativity surrounding their club at the moment.

The Blues have had a tough year or so, and thus far, things have not improved. However, that could be about to change.

According to La Gazzetta Dello Sport, Chelsea are once again pressing on with a move for Napoli man Maurizio Sarri, with a deal between the two parties close. A two year deal, with an option for a third year, is reportedly in the offing.

However, for Chelsea fans, that isn’t where the excitement ends. Indeed, the report also notes that Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola will reportedly be coming in as Sarri’s assistant.

Zola, of course, is a fan favourite at Stamford Bridge, having been the star of the show for the club around the turn of the millennium. Fans have been waiting for him to return ever since, and now it appears as though he could finally do so.

Of course, it’s up in the air until its announced, but it seems like progress is finally being made.

Landlord’s Verdict

A move for Sarri just makes sense. Chelsea need a replacement for Conte lined up, as the Italian looked destined to leave. Sarri will provide the attacking play that fans crave, whilst he’ll also help turn the mood around at Stamford Bridge.

The update on Zola, though, is what is most exciting here. The Italian legend would serve as the connection between the new manager and the club, as well as the fans.

If anything will get the Stamford Bridge faithful back on side, it’s this. What a great move if it does happen.
