Chelsea make their move as Blues look to finally wrap up deal – report

Time is running out for Chelsea, and the fans in the Transfer Tavern are getting increasingly worried…

With less than 12 hours to go until the Premier League window slams shut, the pressure is definitely on the Blues to wrap up a few deals.

Of course, Chelsea’s squad depth is at an all time low at present, having sold a number of players without bringing in proper replacements.

There is still time, though, and according to Matt Law of the Daily Telegraph, Chelsea have made another move to land a key target.

Law writes on Twitter that the Blues have made a £30 million move for Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater as Chelsea look to finally tie a deal up for the Englishman.

Likely viewed as a replacement for Nemanja Matic, Drinkwater’s arrival could relieve the strain currently being placed on the Chelsea midfield – with Tiemoue Bakayoko, Cesc Fabregas and N’Golo Kante currently Chelsea’s only options in the role.

Whether it’s enough to get the deal done remains to be seen, but if Leicester finally let the midfielder go, he would fill an important gap within the Blues’ squad.

Landlord’s Verdict

Drinkwater likely wouldn’t be a starter at Chelsea, but he would play a key role for the Blues.

He is very familiar with N’Golo Kante, and so the pair could reignite their partnership that was made famous en route to Leicester’s title victory in 2016.

It’s a lot of money, of course, but when you consider his homegrown status, his relative youth (27-years-old) and Chelsea’s needs – it quickly becomes a great piece of business from the Blues.
