The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are pleased that this deal is finally coming to a conclusion…
The most high-profile transfer relating to Chelsea in recent weeks has been regarding a player that has, ironically, always kept a relatively low-profile – and it would appear as though we are finally steaming towards the end of the saga.
John Obi Mikel, whilst undoubtedly a fantastic and consistent footballer, has long been linked with a move away from Chelsea, with his contract expiring at the end of the season, and a move to Valencia has reportedly been on the cards over the last few days.
However, in a turn of events, whilst Mikel is still looking likely to complete a move away – it would appear as though Spain will not be his destination.
According to the Evening Standard, Mikel looks set to complete a move to China – with medicals reportedly taking place today.
The Evening Standard notes that Mikel’s wage demands proved too high to remain in Europe, with a sizeable increase on his current Chelsea salary on offer in the Far East.
The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are delighted with this, as they feel that a big payday is what Mikel deserves. He has become somewhat of a cult hero amongst the Blues in the Tavern, as whilst his performance regularity remained inconsistent – his performances were always very good – and they will never forget his incredible performances en route to the 2012 Champions League final.
After joining the club in 2006, Mikel has won nearly every trophy that has been available to him – making over 200 appearances in a blue shirt along the way.
A legendary figure at Stamford Bridge, our landlord thinks that a quiet retirement in China, followed by an eventual return to Chelsea following his retirement would be a fantastic way to see out a marvellous career for Mikel.
