Chelsea midfield could yet stay despite departure talk

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are very surprised about this…

Yesterday, Oscar’s time at Chelsea looked over. Amid reports of an impending move to China, the Brazilian was left out of Chelsea’s squad to face Sunderland – with an announcement on his future expected sooner, rather than later.

A £60 million move has, reportedly, been agreed between the Blues and Shanghai SIPG – and Oscar’s future looked destined to be in China.

However, in a surprise turn of events, according to Sky Sports News, Oscar’s destination post-January might not be so clear cut.

Sky Sports News are reporting that Oscar remains keen to stay at Stamford Bridge, despite being aware of interest from China, and interestingly – they note that the Brazilian could yet stay in London.

This has come as a huge surprise to the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern, many of whom were expecting Oscar to depart imminently. They thought that his dismissal from the Chelsea squad last night had put the writing on the wall – but that does not appear to be the case.

Oscar’s retention does make a little bit of sense, though. The Brazilian is clearly committed to the club, and he was absolutely crucial last season. It could be argued that he still has a pretty significant role to play at the club going forward.

Our landlord is still expecting a deal to go through, though…
