At present, the Blues have close to 40 players on loan, and when compared to most teams in the Premier League – that is an outrageous number.
It becomes more controversial when you consider that Chelsea have failed to really utilise this system, with Courtois the only notable figure to make the jump.
However, what cannot be doubted is the quality of the players that Chelsea have on loan at present, and in truth – our landlord thinks that a few of them could certainly do a job at Stamford Bridge.
With the Blues flying high in the Premier League, reliability and squad depth is absolutely essential – and Conte should look towards his loan army as a means of finding it.
With that said, Chelsea must consider re-calling these 2 loanees in January
Nathan Ake
Nathan Ake is a player that has seemingly been on the verge of the Chelsea first team for years. He was brought into the fold by Rafa Benitez during his spell as ‘Interim One’ – but since the departure of the Spaniard – he hasn’t been given much of a chance.
It is a shame, because he excelled under Benitez, and his loan to Watford last season was his best yet.
At Bournemouth this season, however, Ake has really struggled to gain a foothold in the first team. Howe has finally seen sense and utilised him in recent weeks, but in truth – a return to Chelsea might be the best option for Ake.
He is perfect for the 3-4-3 formation, and Chelsea have been crying out for defensive depth.
Andreas Christensen
Andras Christensen is often touted with a move back to Chelsea by the Blues in the Tavern – and it is easy to see why.
He has everything: youth, experience, technical ability, defensive solidity. In a Chelsea side with the likes of Terry, Ivanovic and Cahill all lacking form – Christensen would provide a welcome break from defensive issues for Antonio Conte.
A return next season is an inevitability, but a January move makes even more sense. Whether he can return is another issue entirely – but Antonio Conte must take a chance and attempt it, as he could really do with extra defensive depth as the season heats up.
