The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are still waiting for Conte to make his first signing of the new year…
The Italian boss has led Chelsea fantastically this season, but the Blues’ defeat to Tottenham earlier this week proved that Chelsea’s pursuit of the Premier League title is not going to be an easy one.
They’ve been on a fantastic run this year, but all good things must come to an end – and Conte must ensure that the Blues bounce back from the setback well.
Perhaps more concerning than the result itself, the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern were worried that a number of the Blues’ usually consistent performers had poor games – leaving many calling for a bit more squad depth.
It appears clear that the Chelsea midfield, in particular, has been overplayed – with the trio of Kante, Matic and Fabregas largely relied upon so far this season, leaving a few of the Chelsea fans leaning by the bar calling for a new midfield signing this month.
However, in what will surely disappoint the Blues – one target may not be available over the next few weeks.
According to the Guardian, Chelsea midfield target Franck Kessie is still being eyed up for a move by the Blues – but any deal may have to wait until the end of the season.
The Guardian are reporting that Atlanta don’t want Kessie to leave before the end of the season, and it would appear as though no fee will change their mind.
This has come as a blow to the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern, many of whom fear that Conte may have to look elsewhere in search of midfield talent.
Kessie has been fantastic in Serie A this season, and has developed into the perfect central midfielder. Powerful whilst also comfortable on the ball, Kessie has drawn comparisons with Ramires in the Tavern – and our landlord thinks that he could be exactly what Chelsea need.
