Chelsea remain keen on £70m-rated attacker, Conte is unlikely to get his man

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are, perhaps somewhat prematurely, confident that their side is going to land the Premier League title this season…

The Blues have been near-unstoppable so far this season, and whilst the likes of Man City and Tottenham are breathing down their necks, the thoughts of many in the pub have now moved towards whether the Blues can retain their title next season.

It is certainly going to be tough for Antonio Conte, and that is why he is, reportedly, looking to bolster out his attacking options with the signing of a major European star.

According to the Express, Chelsea are keen on Borussia Dortmund winger Marco Reus. However, the Blues have reportedly been told to cough up a whopping £70 million to get the deal done, which the Express are reporting is far too much for the Chelsea board.

Apparently unwilling to part with so much money given that Reus is already 27-years-old and won’t be worth as much following the end of a potential contract, it seems unlikely that Conte will be able to land his man.

It is probably for the best, too, with the injury prone attacker recently succumbing to yet another injury blow – with a thigh injury now set to rule him out until next month. Given the unreliability of his fitness, an investment the size of what Dortmund are expecting doesn’t seem to be good business for the Blues.

Reus’ form this season certainly seems to reflect his lack of fitness, with just 2 Bundesliga goals in his account so far this year.

On his day he is unstoppable, though, as the video below shows…

With the likes of Pedro, Hazard and Willian to call upon, our landlord doesn’t think that a new deal for Reus is necessary.
