Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern almost choked on their peanuts this morning after reading the astronomical figure their club is set to spend to turn around their poor fortune this season.
With seven defeats from the opening 12 matches, now sitting 13 points behind Manchester United in fourth spot, The Telegraph suggests Roman Abramovich may have to fork-out £100m to save the Blues’ season.
The three-figure sum could potentially include £10m in compensation to Jose Mourinho, if he is sacked, and a potential £15m to capture prime replacement Diego Simeone from Atletico Madrid.
On top of this, it’s clear Chelsea need to heavily invest in the transfer market in January to bolster their struggling squad- whilst it’s stated missing out on the Champions League could cost the Blues a whopping £40m.
For many in the bar this is seen as necessary investiture and no short-cuts can be taken, with the club in a precarious position and pressure on the board to turn things around after a decade of stability and success.
Chelsea fans, how much should be spent on new players in January? Who would you sign? Let us know in the comments below!
