Just as news filters through to us here at the Football Transfer Tavern about the retirement of Jamie Carragher at the end of the season, it seems that another Premier League player may well be getting a stay of execution according to the Daily Mail.
In news that Chelsea fans feel has been far too long in coming, it has been claimed that Frank Lampard is now in fact set to be offered a new deal by the club. The midfielder is simply a club sweetheart and has expressed his desire to stay and end his career at the club so often it seems like a broken record.
The club had stood firm and insisted that no new deal would be offered, leading to a host of offers for Lamps from a number of clubs both in Europe and indeed further afield such as Gazzetta Dello Sport who linked the England midfielder with Lazio last month. The first sign that the club may be willing to relent came with the shock news that Ashley Cole had been offered a new deal and now the whispers are that the same U-turn will be repeated with Frank Lampard.
The midfielder is second in the all-time list of goal scorers for the Blues and is only five off the number one spot – something he is looking to beat before the season is out. The Daily Mail claim that club owner Roman Abramovich is growing increasingly concerned over his decreasing popularity at the club and is willing to bow to the fans and offer Lampard a new deal to gain some favour back.

he is even over deserve it, pls give new contract he is our legend.
Lampard deserved an extension, so Chelsea should do exactly that.
Keep Frank at Chelsea forever. His experience to nurture our young stars through the next few years and then on the coaching staff at the end of his career. He is unique and should never be allowed to leave ever.
Frank Lampard deserve a new deal at the bridge, players of his nature and experience are always needed. The blues need him, he need to remain blue
