There are puzzled faces here in the Football Transfer Tavern as it is claimed by Football Friends Online that Chelsea will offer Real Madrid £20 million for one of their star midfielders this summer.
It seems clear to everyone that Jose Mourinho will be taking over at Stamford Bridge this summer and it has been thought that Xabi Alonso would follow his manager back to England yet after the midfielder claimed that he would see out his contract with the Spanish giants and may consider an extension deal, Mourinho has turned his attentions elsewhere to German international Sami Khedira.
The Special One is not convinced with David Luiz in the centre of midfield and is casting his eye around for someone who he feels can stand the pace of the Premier League and deliver in Europe to boot.
Given that Khedria has been one of Real Madrid’s most consistent performers over the last couple of seasons it will be no small task to lure the German international away from the club yet a massive bid of £20 million would certainly get officials at the club thinking.
