The Football Transfer Tavern was astonished when Steven Gerrard slipped to let Demba Ba in to score for Chelsea and single-handedly deliver Manchester City the initiative going into the final weeks.
Ba took advantage of Gerrard’s mistake to net his fifth goal in his last eight Chelsea matches and help secure three massive points for the Blues but according to The Chronicle he could yet be heading back to his former club in the summer.
The paper report that Newcastle United are preparing a deal to bring Ba back to St. James’ Park as Alan Pardew looks to strengthen his squad.
Magpies supporters in the tavern before tonight’s match with Arsenal have all been left excited by the reports with the 28-year-old still regarded as something of a hero in the North East.
Chelsea recruited Ba in a £7 million transfer in January 2013 but they could be ready to let him leave with Jose Mourinho seeking to freshen up his strikeforce for the new season.
A return to his former club could work out for all parties with a fee similar to what originally took him to Stamford Bridge thought to be enough to lure him back to Tyneside.
