Chelsea suffer huge blow in midfielder transfer pursuit

Bad news for the Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern…

Santos midfielder Thiago Maia has been linked with a move to Chelsea recently, with the Daily Mail reporting in September that the Blues are keen on a January move.

The Brazilian midfielder has been earmarked by the Blues in the Tavern as the man to replace Cesc Fabregas – with the 19-year-old proficient offensively like Fabregas, but also offering defensive consistency.

The punters in the Tavern were expecting Conte to launch a move in the new year for Maia – but now it would appear that the Brazilian has other clubs on his mind.

Speaking to ESPN Brazil (via the Sun), Maia has revealed that he has his sights set on a move to PSG: “Many players say they want to play for Real or Barcelona, but I identify with PSG”.

When questioned on whether he had been offered a contract by the French giants, he said: “Not yet, but I hope it comes one day…If I go to PSG I will be very happy”

Whilst Maia does not specify that he does not want to join Chelsea, the Brazilian appears set on a move to the French capital. Very few players would turn down the likes of Madrid or Barcelona – but Maia is seemingly convinced by PSG.

This has disappointed the Chelsea fans in the Tavern, many of whom expected Maia to be Chelsea’s next big Brazilian signing. He would, of course, join the likes of Luiz, Oscar and Willian who are at the club already.

Our landlord thinks that Fabregas could well find himself staying at Chelsea as a result…
