There is some massive news breaking in the Football Transfer Tavern today with The Sun’s Geoff Sweet arriving to tell punters that Chelsea are ready to challenge Manchester City for Napoli striking ace Edinson Cavani.
The striker looked all set to move to the Etihad Stadium this summer after recent reports suggested that new City boss Manuel Pellegrini wanted to bring the 26-year-old star with him to set off their spending spree after sporting director Txiki Begiristain held talks earlier this year.
However Sweet now reports that Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis was in London yesterday speaking to Chelsea about a possible summer move for the Uruguayan forward, who has netted a mightily impressive 103 goals in his 107 games for Napoli.
Both club’s would be able to afford the massive £52 million buy-out clause in the striker’s contract and the Italian side have insisted that there will be no budging on the set price.
The movement by the Blues probably comes as a result of Monaco’s strong interest in Chelsea target Radamel Falcao and reports suggested over the weekend that had agreed a deal to sign for the French club over the Stamford Bridge side.
