Details of the much suspected and unsurprising truth behind the Craig Bellamy fiasco are beginning to emerge. Manchester City decided that they would rather pay his full wages, potentially for the rest of his contract – best part of £4million a year, than let him be sold to Tottenham or Fulham.
So that left the player with little option but to rely upon the safety net of his old friends at Cardiff City, with whom he was training yesterday.
Cardiff’s wage contribution is believed to between £4,000 to £6,000 per week.
Harry Redknapp was left depressed by the attitude…
“They wouldn’t want to loan him to us. I don’t think they want to loan anyone to us. Good luck to Cardiff but it would be a waste of an outstanding player. He should stay in the Premier League for sure.”
The situation could of course be reversed at any stage by City. But is this the future? More importantly, is it fair? Footballer contracts have always been a murky area, but this takes this takes the biscuit if it goes ahead.
