City Outcast To Seek Diplomatic Immunity…

Craig Morris 18 October 2010, 18:56 2 minutes read

…In Scotland.

There are reports that Manchester City’s number two, Shay Given, could go to Celtic on loan for the remainder of the season come the January transfer window.

The Republic of Ireland international is firmly behind Joe Hart as City’s first choice and has made no secret he wants to be playing regular. Given is without doubt a talented goalkeeper, and would probably be number one at most Premiership clubs. Hart’s exceptional loan spell at Birmingham last season has seen Roberto Mancini make him his first choice however.

Given has been a Premiership goalkeeper for the last thirteen years, and has consistently been one of the best. At thirty four though he now wants regular games, something he won’t get at City.

Celtic would be an attractive option for him I would have thought. It is a club he is fond of, having started his career there at the age of fifteen before moving to Blackburn. He would be number one for certain and has practically a 50/50 chance of winning silverware, something he has won very little of.

Neil Lennon is keen to make his first full season in charge of Celtic a successful one, and after a perfect start of eight wins from eight in the league they still lie second. Given could be the addition the makes the difference.

I’m sure Man City wouldn’t be against letting him go on loan; they still have cover should Hart get injured. And they won’t be letting a good goalkeeper go to a rival, which we know they are all too aware of. Just ask Arsene Wenger.
