Concern for Conte as latest Chelsea blow hints at bigger problem for the Blues

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are concerned about their side’s current league position. Whilst the Blues remain in the fight for a top-four finish, it hasn’t been a very good few weeks.

They’re coming off the back of back-to-back defeats in the Premier League, and in truth, their upcoming game against West Brom could prove to be make or break for Antonio Conte.

There are certainly a few problems brewing at Stamford Bridge, both on the field and off of it. Many of them are obvious, such as Antonio Conte’s long-term future, but there is another issue quickly raising its ugly head.

According to the Times, Marcos Alonso wasn’t involved against Watford on Monday in an effort not to worsen a slight hamstring problem. Of course, hamstring issues aren’t uncommon, but this news suggests that there is a bigger problem afoot at Stamford Bridge.

As the Times reports, eight other players have suffered hamstring issues so far this season, with Andreas Christensen and Ross Barkley the two latest first teamers to succumb to the problem.

Given just how many injuries are involved, it’s no coincidence that a trend is evolving here.

Chelsea aren’t blessed with the biggest squad, and so this is a serious problem for Antonio Conte – especially given that a number of regular first team players have been affected.

Landlord’s Verdict

Antonio Conte clearly ensures that his players work very hard, and that paid off last season for the Blues as they stormed to the title.

However, games are coming thick and fast this term, and Conte, it seems, isn’t adjusting his methods to reflect that.

Training routine clearly must be having an effect here, and so if Conte doesn’t change his tactic quickly, this problem is only going worsen.
