Contact made as Leeds reportedly consider move for £7.2m-rated striking star

Leeds United fans in the Transfer Tavern will want to hear some positive news this summer as their club continues to be involved with negative situations.

The Whites finished last season in the bottom half of the Championship table and decided that Paul Heckingbottom needed to leave, despite having only taken over from Thomas Christiansen in February.

The club have been busy looking at new alternatives, yet the locals are keen the club also spends their time looking for new signings this summer, as they try and get themselves in contention for a long-awaited return to the Premier League.

The Whites will need to add firepower if they are to achieve their aims and, according to reports, they could be prepared to make a huge Championship name one of theirs if things do not go as planned.

And that’s because, according to a report in The Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds are considering a move for Matej Vydra as talks for Abel Hernandez continue to be prolonged.

The Derby County striker is thought to be available for other clubs to sign as the Pride Park outfit look to cut costs, yet it is expected that a fee in excess of £10 million will be needed to lure him away from the East Midlands, although Leeds have reportedly made contact with Frank Lampard’s side over a possible deal.

But if Leeds were indeed to seal a deal for the £7.2 million-rated striking star (as per Transfermarkt), it would be a huge statement of intent ahead of the new Championship season.

Landlord’s Verdict: The chance to sign someone like Vydra is something that does not always come up, and Leeds should strongly consider making a move for the attacker.

The former Watford and West Bromwich Albion striker has been prolific in the Championship, helping the Rams to 21 league goals this season and will offer the Whites what they are missing.

Although Hernandez would be a great move, especially given his free transfer status, £10 million is not a fee the Yorkshire side should turn their noses up at, and the locals will feel he can make an immediate impact to the side.
