Crisis averted: 2 underused players who can fix Man United’s Pogba problem

Paul Pogba’s injury has seriously annoyed the Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern this evening.

With the Frenchman playing his best football since joining the Red Devils for £89m in August 2016, the fact he’ll likely miss a few crucial few weeks of action has sent those propping up our bar into a fit of frenzy.

United host Everton on Sunday, travel to Southampton and welcome Crystal Palace before the month’s up in domestic competition, as well make the trek over to Russia to play CSKA Moscow in UCL match day 2.

So, it’s fair to say Pogba could be a big miss in what may be the formative period in deciding as to whether Jose Mourinho’s side can battle for either competition.

Still, it’s not as if the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ is without all too many options in central midfield.

Indeed, the Portuguese may be without one of his best players, though does have a few different players at his disposal to help plug that very gap.

With that in mind, here’s a look at a couple of them.

Michael Carrick

The United legend may not have featured much so far, though he’s certainly a more than capable replacement. Pairing him next to Nemanja Matic with either Juan Mata or Henrikh Mkhitaryan in a more creative role within a three, or even as a No.10 would retain United’s balance.

Knows both competitions inside and out, so the 36-year-old is certainly a dependable replacement.

Scott McTominay

It’d be easy to suggest the likes of Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini as replacements, though youngster Scott McTominay could provide more of a natural replacement.

The 20-year-old can operate as a box-to-box runner, boasting high technical quality and, while he may not be as naturally imposing as Pogba, could prove to be a better foil for Romelu Lukaku than the pair we first mentioned in this slide.
