There wasn’t a dry eye amongst the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern yesterday as the Blues in the bar bid farewell to club legend John Terry.
Whether you like him or loathe him, there’s little doubt the former England captain is a legend in the Premier League, having won it five times.
Still, as popular as he is among the west London locals who frequent in their droves, it seems swathes of Manchester United fans on Twitter have been chiming in on Terry’s Stamford Bridge departure.
Ironically enough, the Blues bastion bid an emotional goodbye to his home crowd on the 21st May – nine years to the day he was infamously reduced to tears in Moscow.
During the Champions League final meeting between the two in the Russian capital, Terry famously slipped during his penalty and allowed the Red Devils to claim Europe’s top crown for the second time.
So, on the anniversary of that famous day, United fans took to Twitter to poke fun at Terry’s retirement.
John Terry shedding tears on this date is quite fitting. From his last game to that penalty slip! #Moscow #2008 #CL
